About the Tellico Village Polish Heritage Club

Celebrating Polish Heritage & Community

The Tellico Village Polish Heritage Club was founded over 20 years ago to bring together individuals and families who share a deep appreciation for Polish culture, traditions, and history. While we are proud Americans, we also take pride in our Polish roots, ensuring that the customs passed down from our ancestors continue to thrive for future generations.

Our Story

The club was originally formed as a way for Polish-American families—many from Michigan, Illinois, and other northern states—to connect over a shared heritage. What began as a small gathering has grown into a welcoming community of local members.

“We are Americans first, but we’re proud of our Polish heritage and want to hold onto the traditions we got from our parents and grandparents.” — Club Member

Honoring Traditions

We celebrate and preserve Polish customs through special events, educational programs, and community gatherings. Two of our most cherished traditions include:

  • Wigilia (Traditional Polish Christmas Eve Supper) – A festive, meatless meal featuring oplatek wafer sharing, and a deep sense of togetherness.
  • Swienconka (Blessing of the Easter Basket) – A beloved Polish Easter tradition where families bring baskets of food to church for a blessing before the Easter feast.

In addition to these cultural traditions, we host a variety of social events, picnics, polka parties, and even local outings to bring our members closer together.

Keeping the Heritage Alive

At each meeting, we share presentations on Polish history, culture, and traditions, ensuring that members stay connected to their roots. As time goes on, we understand how important it is to pass down these traditions so that Polish heritage remains strong for future generations.

“Like any other ethnic group, we’re slowly being diluted through intermarriage. Eventually, a lot of that will disappear, and we want to hang onto it as long as we can.” — Club Member
